Nigerian held with heroin valued at Rs.70 lakh

New Delhi, April 16 (IANS): A Nigerian national was arrested here for trafficking heroin, valued at Rs.70 lakh in the international market, police said Wednesday.

A joint team of the Anti-Narcotics Cell and Delhi Police's Crime Branch Monday arrested Odeomenan Kenneth Ozioma of Warri in Nigeria from near the Janakpuri Metro station with 330 gm heroin concealed in especially-made cavities inside ladies' sandals.

"Ozioma was to send the heroin parcel to the US through air courier when he was arrested," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ravindra Yadav said.

"After the seizure, we came to know of such modus operandi used by drug dealers," said the official.

Ozioma came to Delhi in November 2009 and started a business of exporting readymade garments and ladies' sandals to his native country.

"As Ozioma was not earning much, he was looking for greener pastures. In the meantime, his visa expired and he shifted to Mumbai where he came in contact with another Nigerian named Ikke at a party.

"Ikke offered him a lucrative deal for facilitating the trafficking of heroin and other party drugs. Thereafter, he started selling heroin and other party drugs at several places in Mumbai.

"To earn quick money, he completely engaged himself in drug trafficking," said the official.

Ozioma came to Delhi April 5 and met Ikke who delivered a parcel containing ladies' sandals in which the heroin was concealed.
