Mangalore: DYFI demands fresh probe into Rajesh Poojary murder

Mangalore, May 23: In a press meet, the DYFI demanded reopening of the investigation into the murder of Rajesh Poojary of Bajarang Dal who was recently hacked to death in Kalpane. Addressing the media, DYFI state president Munir Katipalla said, “Police have arrested innocents in the case. The SP should once again probe the murder of Rajesh Poojary. We don't trust the probe conducted by Lingappa Poojary and Bantwal circle inspector Rajeshshekar Mistry. Due to pressure from the Bajarang Dal and VHP, the police have arrested innocents instead of the real culprits.

“Police have identified Irshad (21), Husain (20), and Imran (20) alongwith three others as conspirators in the case. The accused don't have any link with any of the organizations or any grudge against Rajesh Poojary. Irshad, who is one of the accused in the case, got out from his bed at 8 am while the murder took place at 7 am. How can a person who is sleeping at his home be involved in this murder? Imran, who works in a stone quarry, reported for work on that day at 8 am. How can a murderer be peaceful at the work place after committing a murder? The accused don't have any criminal back ground and are not involved in any cases,” he claimed.

“This shows that the police acted under pressure and have arrested innocents. Arrest of innocents has led their families to suffer. Though the families have contacted MLAs Moideen Bava and Ramanath Rai, they have only been assured verbally of a re-investigation. Though they are aware of the truth, they are not coming forward to provide justice. Hence, the DYFI is demanding a fresh probe into the Rajesh Poojary murder and arrest of real culprits in the case. On Tuesday May 27, at around 3:30 pm, the DYFI will hold a mass protest rally from the Town Hall to the DC office,” added Katipalla.

On this occasion, Dayananda Shetty, district secretary, Bhava Padarengi, social activist, Jabber Mallur, Shahidha, Imran's mother, Nebisa, Irshad's mother, and Mohammed Asif, Irshad's brother, were present at the press meet.
