Mangalore: 28-year-old Keertana Pai dies in scooter accident, two injured

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 11: A woman died, while her husband and son were injured, in a two-wheeler accident which occurred near Eshwarakatte in Bondel on Tuesday June 10.

The deceased has been identified as Keertana Pai (28), a native of Udupi.

Keertana used to live with her husband, Krishnananda Pai (37) who hails from Siddapur near Brahmavar, at the KPTCL quarters in Bondel here. Krishnanda works as assistant executive engineer for KPTCL Kavoor.

It is learnt that Keertana and her eight-year-old son, Kedar Pai, had returned from Bangalore on Tuesday morning. Krishnananda had picked the duo in his scooter. While proceeding towards their home, all the three fell to the road after the wheels of the scooter skidded on wet surface at Eshwarakatte. Keeertana, who suffered critical injuries in the accident, breathed her last before medical help could be extended. Both Krishnananda Pai and Kedar Pai, who suffered injuries, are being treated in a hospital.

Keertana owned Kedar Creations, and under this firm's banner, had organized several programmes, which were well received. A report relating to the accident was filed in the city (north) police station.

Very sad news. A couple of months back i had a fall from my scooter early morning opposite MCF. immediately afterwards a couple fell. It was due to the slipper road fallen from the urea of MCF. we were lucky we did not have a heavy vehicle behind us. I had a similar situation near infosys due to a oil spillage by a heavy vehicle. In both circumstances i was lucky enough. By and large it is very risky to use 2 wheelers due to terrain, etc. Rather use public transport or a 4 wheeler.

Here is another case of a skid on wet roads.

No one is to be blamed here. However it is expedient that classes for seniors as well youngsters are held at various centers to retell about the dangers while driving on wet roads, overtaking other vehicles and the caution to be exercised with buses and rickshaws.

Riding two-wheelers is taken so casually in India compared to here in the west. Helmet for the rider is purely ornamental and co-rider is not legally required to wear the helmet. Is co-rider's life any less important than the rider's?

Where does seating for the third individual come about, when the vehicle is only designed for two!!
This in itself is a major safety violation. How can one expect the vehicle to function safely when the load is disproportionate to what it is actually designed for?

Something to think about. Sometimes, tragedies like this acts as a wake-up call for two-wheeler safety.

Very unfortunate and unwarranted incident. May her soul rest in peace.

May her soul rest in eternal peace. A young talent is lost at the age of only 28 years.

You are absolutely right. But the problem in India is if the authorities implement this law strictly, then people will start “Morcha, Hartal, Bandh” saying that we don’t want “WESTERN CULTURE”, let us ride 5 people in a 2 wheeler against its capacity of 2 persons, 15 to 20 people in a Ambassador taxi car against its capacity of 5 persons, 70 to 100 people in a local bus against its capacity of maximum 55 sitting 10 standing. Yes accidents take place it’s normal for them, they don’t care for that.

There is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Its all about how you ride it. Plus you need to careful these days as roads are slippery and tyres tend to skid upon braking.

I agree 100% with ali, mangalore. Ministry of Road Transport needs to do a thorough research on this .I know at least 10 cases all of which are Kinetic Activa or Kinetic Honda scooter skidding .One young boy only son of an Hotelier here died in accident while riding that .There is something wrong with its Non geared pick up style
