Mangalore, Jun 11: Passengers of Yeswanthpur - Karwar Express were stranded for several hours at Mangalore junction here on Wednesday June 11.

The train that entered the station at 7.30 am remained grounded until past noon.

The station master said that the train halted due to problems with the signal.

An official, who spoke in Tamil, said that three trains, including from Mumbai and Goa, were to enter into the station at the same time on a single line. Hence, to give way to the other trains, the Yeswantpur-Karwar train was halted.

A passenger, annoyed with the unexpected delay, said that it was high time action was taken to prevent such incidents and hoped that the new union minister for railways D V Sadananda Gowda would do something about it.

Taking the opportunity to express their unhappiness over the railway junction, the people who gathered there said that earlier there were three display machines showing train timings, but now there was only one. The taxi drivers complained about the unclean toilets.

Some said that there was information available in Kannada and that most of the staff and officials at the station did not know the local language.

Railway police force arrived at the spot. It was past noon by the time the train resumed its journey.

Mr. DVS, Mangalore is for Karnataka Kannada speaking people. Please make sure both queries in kannada and Local Dialect Tulu queries are answered by railway staff working in Mangalore. Make sure our senior citizens of the state get the queries answered and given complete co-operation while communicating in Kannada and Tulu language. We are not against any other state, but Karanataka is for Kannadigas. Please take some serious steps to get it done. Don't betray the public who voted you to be minister for their betterment. Shankar Rao. Mangalore raiways station need to be upgraded to international standard, with service provided by railway staff is of utmost importance, rather than giving rude and inappropriate reply. In Mangalore there is no shortage of local young generation to work in railway dept. We don't have to import foreign elements to run Karanataka Railway Board.

My family too faced a great deal of inconvenience. We were to board the said train to Bangalore on Sunday May 11, 2014. Though the train was to depart at 8:40 pm it departed only at 12:35 am (early Monday morning) after a full delay of 4 hours. The announcement was totally defunct. I came to know the reason through a fellow passenger who was to resume his duties at Bangalore the next day. The fault that led to the delay was ''track fracture'' at Surathkal. It is high time the railways are privatized to avoid recurrences of such type. The best part of the story .. The Railways have forgotten their manners ... the least we could expect them was to have been atleast apologetic. It seems they are doing a favour to us and because of us they are surviving. There should be a separate board to look after such grievances to ensure that there is a full stop to such recurrences. This is the main difference. I know our useless ministers love to travel by air and ignore the complaints of the general passengers unlike the ministers from Kerala who always travel by train and ensure that they have their demands expedited due to their strong lobby. They bake the cake, have the icing and eat it all. The crumbs of the cake are fit to be consumed for our Karnataka railway ministers.

I had opted to travel in this train couple of times during weekends. Reason was, didn't want to travel by bus by paying whatever the amount they charge, there is no control, no fixed rates during summer especially weekends. But train journey was worse because of the time it takes to reach Udupi, Kundapur or Karwar. You simply can't predict the time when you will reach your destination. Imagine this scenario, to catch this train I had to start at 5 in the evening from Whitefield Bangalore. Reached Kundapur next day at 12 noon. Close to 17 hours journey!!! Breakfast provided at Mangalore is pathetic. After crossing Mangalore you will not get anything. Inconvenience list is endless... There are thousands like me who travel between coastal to Bangalore atleast monthly once, only suitable option traveling by bus and indirectly encouraging the bus lobby. The Train evades always!!!

Things can go wrong at times. However passengers can be left in the lurch or penalized for no fault of their own.

It is necessary that the aggrieved be provided with food and shelter until they resume the interrupted journey.

On 9th June 2014, at Yashwantpur the Karwar Express had come to platform number 4. It was late by about 40 minutes but there were NO ANNOUNCEMENTS to that effect. From Platform number 1 to come to platform number 4 there is the staircase is too high. There were no facilities to bring the elderly people from platform number 1 to 4

Regarding the problem of language at Mangalore railway stations the less said the better. If they can not communicate in Kannada, why they can not communicate in Hindi and English? Or alternatively keep at least ONE PERSON AT THE ENQUIRY COUNTER who knows Kannada.

I have several times experienced the problem to communicate in Mangalore railway station,( while booking the tickets) at the counter the person did not Kannada. They would speak Malayalam ? Don't the Indian Railways find people who can speak Kannada in Karnataka? If it was in Kerala at the counter people speak Kannada, people would have created problems. In Karnataka people are very understanding. Mr. DVS please do something about it. Do we in Karnataka have to speak Malayalam in order to book our tickets at the Railway station ? Where are the Politicians who speak about Great Love for Kannada?

    1.Information available in Kannada.
You can not expect it to be in Malyalam or Tamil in karnataka.
2.Staff and officials at the station do not know the local language.
They can not expect the local people to learn their language. The S & O's should learn the local languages just like our state people learn when they move to other states.
Our Min.DVS needs 6 months to study the situation. In 60 months touring round the states he will achieve masters in all languages

Some time back Kharge had announced that Mangalore Central will be upgraded to 'International standards' & nothing happened!! at least now DVS should ensure basic minimal facilities as mentioned in this report are provided ASAP. As far as Mallus & Tamilians are concerned, Mangalore Central & Kankanady are under their control as these stations come under Southern Railway. Firstly these should be brought under SWR or KR & made seperate Division....The local people & the Chambers of Commerce should take this up on priority....

I salute all my Malyali friends. I love all girls from Kerala. Pure, ravishing,dusky....Must see them in the mornings going to temples, with their glistening black hair, yellow vermillion on their cheeks...
In fact one of the main reasons why I became a romantic poet of sorts...
    Dear Sid...
    You want to speak Malyalam?
O.K. Put a 'hot potato' in your mouth...This was 'suggested' by my Kerala girl friend once, after she completely failed to teach me the language and get the pronunciation correct...It works only sometimes but...
Usaa Menun..the name of my friend...How I remember her! Very clever girl ...scholar she was.

This is the most common problem. This train comes till 'Kankanady'
on time. After this 'kidney failure' starts. Dialysis at least for 1 hour most of the time.
This has to be taken note of seriously and the problem addressed.
Trains starting from Mangalore Central can be delayed by some time to accommodate this train.
This train for which the entire coastal region fought for is definitely getting 'step motherly 'treatment due to some mischief by rascals. The platform No 1 at Yeshwanthpur(starting point) for this train has been changed to 5,
sometime back causing great inconvenience. Now platforms are changed 'at will' for this train at B'lore. All this has to stop.
Our new Railway Minister should for starters look into this matter. M'lore Chennai corridor can come later.
Daiji please take the lead in the matter and help commuters coming to M'lore by this train.
