Mangalore, Jun 19: In a tragic incident reported at Pavoor, Harekala here on Thursday June 19, a 7-year-old boy lost his life after he touched a broken electrical wire.

The boy, identified as Mohammed Rizwan, son of Abdul Hameed and Sahira, was a 2nd standard student of Ramakrishna School, Harekala.

The incident took place when Rizwan was on his way to fetch milk on Thursday morning.

It is said that Rizwan was walking towards the shop when he noticed an electrical wire passing over some plants and lying close to the ground. The boy, intending to move it to a corner, held it without knowing that it was a live wire. He died on the spot.

The body was shifted to a private hospital.

It is said that the wire broke after heavy rain lashed the area on Wednesday June 18 night. The power supply in the vicinity was hit, and residents had complained to Mescom.

Mescom officials visited the spot. The locals expressed ire at the officials for their negligence in not attending to the broken wire on time.

A case has been registered in Konaje police station.

Presently, if there is any short circuit, the power should go off immediately by tripper. But why such cases occurs is a matter of concern, & this second case in this monsoon. Investigation should be made so that, once any breakage of wire by wind or falling of tree or short circuit, immediatly the power connection should terminate.

Also, in the interest of public, please don't touch any broken wire, & make MESCOM come towards the point, & call them in frequent intervals so that they can rectify it. The only risk which may be difficult to solve is if the line breaks in night. Only gods grace can save.

The boy departed on attempt to save life of other. RIP....

    Sad incident..
Its MESCOM negligence, they are eager to raise the charges but not the quality of the wires/poles/equipment...i think mescom should use only ISO marked goods/accessories and timely checking..

Richard Lobo, Shirva/Bangalore ... Both MESCOM and public needs to be blamed.. I am neutral .. I will tell you why .. and I am not supporting anybody. But have a look at this ... let us presume even if MESCOM does (did) a neat good professional job (which I very much doubt .. may be only a percent or two of MESCOM's people are dedicated) there are several backward vernacular adivasi type of people (depending on the locality) who always have a pair of itching hands (we call this keeda / kujlie mentality as per Bombay basha) or tapori type of brains ... these morons (people) will go to any limit and undo even the good neat professional jobs done by MESCOM. So now you tell me where the blame lies... who is to be squarely blamed for the innocent boy's death. We have so many type of examples originating from these type of third class vernacular backward class mentality. These citizens cannot and do not want to think of doing a world of good to others... their mind is set be default on destructive activities .. and due to one such activity of this type a death of an innocent boy has resulted. It is common sense .. it goes without saying that because of these nefarious activities our India does not prosper and due to some of these ''black sheep'' we get a bad name. What is your say on this Richard? Do you partly agree with me (if not fully)???

Children should be taught about these dangers, the basic things in schools right from the first standard in order to avoid such kind of accidents and tragic mishaps.

You are right, but how will a small kid can retain this warning in his fragile mind, it is a natural tendency for any nice human being to shift something physically that could be coming on the way of other people to avoid accidents, and this lad did it automatically and in the bargain lost his life!!

Instead why not take the utility co. to task for not ensuring using good quality equipment, safe placement of equipment, scrupulous trimming of plants along side trees, etc. and they should compensate heavily in such cases!! Also, as somebody as suggested, why are they not installing some safety features wherein as soon as a wire snaps or dislodges the power goes of automatically on the lines of something like ELCB!! But who is bothered, nobody is following up till such time expect more such incidents on a regular basis, who knows which unfortunate soul is next in line!!!

RIP!! Very tragic and unfortunate incident!!

Just a few days ago two persons were electrocuted, one fatally somewhere in Ullal, and there many had commented on the sorry state of affairs of power distribution in DK warning people of the impending dangers especially in the monsoons!!

The worst thing is that the utility co. is tough skinned and most careless and lethargic in spite of regular deaths of innocents!!

Unless there is a radical changeover of converting the overhead lines to underground like in Mumbai, such type of incidents will continue, and nobody knows which unfortunate soul will be the next victim!!
