Man kills wife, dumps body near Metro station

New Delhi, June 24 (IANS): A 26-year-old man was Tuesday arrested for killing his wife and dumping her body near a metro station here, police said, adding that their marital relationship was strained.

The body of 23-year-old Neetu was found inside a trolley bag on the roadside near the Mayur Vihar Metro station early Tuesday. Neetu, who stayed with her husband Om Prakash in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, had come to visit her parents in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri area June 8.

Om Prakash, who worked with a telecom company, had called her June 21 to meet him in Noida.

He later told police that his wife did not come to meet him, following which the deceased's parents lodged a missing person report at the police station the same day.

"On the basis of suspicion, Om Prakash was rounded up and he confessed to his crime. He told police that he killed his wife," a police official said.

"He was taken to the spot and the decomposed body was also recovered," the official added.

Prakash told police that he picked up his wife from Noida Sector 18 and took her to a secluded place where he strangled her to death and kept the body in a bag.

After dumping the body near the metro station, he went to his office and informed Neetu's family that she did not reach there.

Police collected footage from the CCTVs installed outside the metro station in which Prakash and Neetu were seen together.

Police said the couple had suspected each other of having extra-marital affairs. They used to have heated arguments often.

The father of the deceased, however, alleged that Prakash used to harass Neetu for dowry.
