Interactive discussion on theater held

Mumbai, June 26: "Theater plays may bring about self-confidence among children. Those are useful for the therapeutic purposes also. There should be stage plays in all the schools. It is possible to bring changes in the personality of children by stage plays," said well-known stage and play director Padma Kodagu.

Kodagu was interacting during a discussion on stage plays for children, held by the department of Kannada, Ranade Bhavan at Kalina Campus in Santacruz East.


"Education teaches the way of life. Drama is the nearest medium for man. The balances between drama, education and life transform the personality of human lives," he added.

He said that theater education teaches us what is unknown and also increases our knowledge making it possible to learn many things quickly.

Dr G N Upadhya, head of the department of Kannada at Mumbai University gave an introductory speech and said, "The department of Kannada has been supporting the study of theater. The department has published works of Chiramuri Sheshagiri Rai Sriranga and has conducted research on the plays of Masti, Bendre, Karnad and others."

He added that it was a matter of pride that the work of Dr Bharath Kumar Polipu was released and wished that such other dramas in other languages might come to Kannada.

Theater artiste Mohan Marnad conducted the discussion. Dr Mamatha Rao, Veena Shastri, Shamala Prakash, Madhusoodan Rao and others participated in it.

Kannada Kalakendra president B Balachandra Rao welcomed and spoke about the Mumbai theater. Dr Poornima S Shetty compeered while Madhusoodan Rao proposed the vote of thanks.
