Mumbai: Former journalist Felix D'Souza passes away in Canada

Mumbai, Jul 9: Felix A D'Souza, former assistant editor of 'Poinnari' Konkani weekly, passed away in Toronto, Canada on Tuesday July 8 due to illness. He was 80.

Before migrating to Canada, he was a resident of Kandarpada, Borivali West.

As a senior Konkani journalist, he worked with 'Poinnari' Konkani weekly for several fruitful years as its assistant editor.

Felix was the brother of renowned Konkani playwright, director, actor and columnist Sunny D'Souza who passed away in 2010.

As a journalist, Felix's writings appeared in a number of Konkani and English periodicals like 'Raknno', 'Konkani Daiz', the 'Examiner' and the 'Free Press Journal'. Kala Sagar organization, Mumbai had honoured him with the title of 'Kala Vibhushan'. This apart, he was awarded by several associations including Konkani Sangati, Canada and the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy. He also had programmes on Akashvani and was a stage artiste too.

Felix D'Souza was born on June 9, 1934 to the late Anthony and the late Cecilia D'Souza of Bendore.

He is survived by his wife Celine, children Lynette Asha/Carlyle (Michigan, USA) and Arun/Michelle (Canada), grandchildren Clarissa, Amol, Kenneth and Samantha and siblings Monica D'Souza (IC Colony, Borivali) and Ronald D'Souza (Evershine Nagar, Malad).

    My heartfelt condolences to Celine Bai and all the family members of Felix D'Souza. When I started writing in Ponnari he was the Asst. Editor. Over the years we had met several times and he used to call me whenever he was in Mangalore.He was kind, humble and a simple man. His writings were published few weeks ago in Konkani weeklies of Mumbai. May his soul rest in peace.
