Sullia: Kumaradhara bridge at Subrahmanya submerges again

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Aug 5: Copious rains in catchment areas on Monday August 4 afternoon swelled River Kumaradhara by a few feet. Unexpectedly, as the water level in the river rose steeply late afternoon on Monday, the Kumaradhara bridge, an important link for devotees visiting this temple town and other people alike, got submerged.

Some Home Guards personnel deputed to keep a watch on the water level and stop people from making adventures, saw at around 3.30 pm that the water level in the river was steadily rising. They immediately alerted local educational institutions, who let the students go by 3.40 pm. But, by the time the students approached the bridge, the water level had gone up suddenly, and the bridge had gone three feet under water.

This stranded nearly 600 students hailing from Kadaba, Alankaru, Mardala, Bilinele, Kombaru, Sunkadakatte Kaikamba, Kulkunda, and Gundia, and about 50 students coming to Subrahmanya from Kulkunda on both the sides of the bridge. The daily commuters, who were also anxious about the possibility of reaching their homes early, had to wait for the river water to recede.

By evening, some buses were run to Kadaba via Panja route, and some of the students made use of this service. Some others had to spend heavily to reach their destinations by hiring private vehicles which took a winding detour to reach there. About 50 children who were to go to Kulkunda, which is just two km away from Subrahmanya, and people who routinely cross this bridge for work or business, waited by the side of the bridge. After the water level went down and the bridge came to sight at around 9.30 pm, they crossed the bridge and went to homes by walk.

In the meanwhile, Sullia tahsildar, Srinivas Shetty, instructed a government bus that was to leave Subrahmanya to Bangalore at 9.30 pm, to take the waiting children from Kulkunda to their village, as they were waiting for long and it was very late. But, as the bus staff refused to oblige, people got angry.

Vehicles were allowed to move on the bridge at around 10 pm, after the water level went further down. Vehicles which had made a two-km line, then crossed the bridge and entered Subrahmanya.

I agree with earnst, even in Muscat when it floods occasionally in the past the government took immediate action and built bridges which are way high from ground. Good governance and future thinking by government which is far far better than our useless leaders

Dear RSRB, Kundapura / Singapore ,
IF YOU HAD LITTLE MIND YOU WOULD HAVE NOT COMMENTED TO PRESERVE RIVER WATER FROM MY SIDE. IT IS GOVERNMENTS JOB.

REMAIN THE QUESTION OF GROWING TOMATOES YOU CAN EVEN GROW IN YOUR BALCONY. AND EXPORT TO INDIA AS PER YOUR TEACH, PREACH AND PRACTICE. NOW YOU WILL SAY YOU DON'T HAVE BALCONY.

Am I growing tomatoes, mangoes, areca nut, cocoanut, cashew nut or nut-cut which is not for publicity what I do is for my satisfaction not for public satisfaction and not for government’s satisfaction.

Moreover Congress hasn’t promised mountains and cheap vegetables. It is the bjp which had promised mountains and cheap vegetables and ACCHHE DHIN.

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MIND BLOGGING IF YOU HAVE IMPRESSED RSS, BD, RAMA SENA, ABHINAV BHARAT, VHP, HINDU JAGARANA VEDIKE TO GROW TOMATOES IN THEIR BACK YARD/SURROUNDINGS RATHER THAN WASTING TIME AND ENERGY IN ROAMING TO DIVIDE THE SOCIETY WITH LEAFLETS TO EVERY NOOKS AND CORNERS OF INDIA.

Inform them not to use Chinese goods.

Bridge under troubled waters. With all that we experience every year, our bridges are constructed just above the rivers thus submerging during rains. Why not construct them way high to avoid overflow. Besides, people are seen standing on the bridge during the overflow with ignorance and if washed away valuable life is lost. In such circumstances immediately the area should be closed protecting public life and the youngsters from adventuring.

Hope to have better higher bridges in the near future.

Also sad to note that buses refuse to co-operate in such circumstances by helping the children.

Ministers, MLA's wake up, give the Indian public better facilities and protection.

Kumaradhara river ultimately joins the Netravathi. The Thumbe dam is overflowing too and we don't mind this excess water going into the sea than diverting this water to other areas of Karnataka. We People of South Kanara are very mean. We cannot enjoy the excess water and let others too not enjoy it. Remember out food grains come from those interior areas.

Mr. Kini, Utilizing the excess water is not a problem. However, the excess should be calculated where the water is getting waste and not at source. Let the excess water be collected at Thumbe dam and distributed across the state. If the water collected at source, how do we know that water was excess and Thumbe will never get full. It is not DK people who are selfish, it is the Politicians who are fulfilling their motto.

    Dear RSRB, Kundapura / Singapore,

    PRACTICE FIRST WHAT YOU PREACH.

WE HAVE MANY ADVISERS AND YOUR ADVISE IS MOST IMPERATIVE TO RSS, BD, VHP, ABHINAV BHARAT, RAMA SENA, HINDU JAGARANA VEDIKE ETC., ETC.,
THEY HAVE ALL PREACHED SWADESHI AND LANDED IN CHINESI/CHINESE.

India will get free of cost tomatoes from Singapore from RSRB, Kundapura grown in his own back yard.

    India's Culture is Agriculture.

    Your comment hits you back...
Because, you too preaching here something which you do not practice...

See your comment again.. You are telling others to take action to save water for agriculture, but you are not trying to utilize the rain water for growing tomato....

By the way, I am a farmer by birth.... Did a lots of farming in my life.... Unfortunately there is no space in Singapore, but still growing few "aayurvedik moonlike" in flower pots at home... :-)

Sea water rained on land and flown in to the sea unutilized nor diverted. River is swelling in gushing of water. I hope to see rain water from the sea once again into the land for drinking water and for agriculture.

    Agriculture should be our culture..
    Horticulture should be our culture..
    Grow tomato in your backyard...
Make surrounding green & also eat fresh veggie & fruits from your own backyard...
Use rain water and grow at least for 4 months....!!
