Udupi, Aug 6: A portion of the school building belonging to Tonse-Khandige private aided higher primary school at Kemmannu Gujjarabettu near Malpe, crashed to the ground on Monday August 5 afternoon. Presence of mind shown by the teachers however, ensured that the incident did not turn into tragedy. This school has a history of 115 years.

The teachers of the school had noticed on Monday morning that the walls of a portion of the school building had developed cracks. Sensing trouble, they shifted the children who were to study in this portion of the building, to other rooms. The school management had employed people to temporarily repair the roof of the building. However, due to heavy rains which lashed the area on Monday afternoon, the wall as well as roof of the school collapsed to the ground. As the children had already been shifted out of the place, the accident fell short of turning into a catastrophe.

The walls of the school located to the west side of the school fell to the ground, and loss  relating to the incident has been estimated at ten lac rupees. The school building is 65 years old, it is learnt.

Officials of  the education department, local people's representatives, village accountants etc visited the spot and conducted inspection.

Congrats to the teachers who have saved the lives of children by moving them in time to some other area. However it is expedient that the school authorities should have detected these problems on time and not wait at the last minute.

We are here to blame the govts all the time but who listens? people's misery in villages has not been taken care of by any govt. most of the time. Gujarat model shows in the TV, children crossing the river to reach their school. At the bank of the river children remove their uniform put in a pot and carry. Once they reach the other bank they remove the uniform from the pot and wear dry uniform.

Why? because there is no school in the village. There is no other transport to go across the river. There is lot of wealth in India, we are a rich country, unfortunately the wealth is only with a few. whatever govt. gives hardly reaches to the grass root level because of loop holes in the system of implementing govt programs and awareness of existence of these programs.

Ask and thy shall be given. Mother gives milk only when child cries for it. Mr. Modi is very benevolent recently. Ask him aid for reconstruction and let us see his charity at home. Also to begin swatch Bharat, build two toilets for boys and girls.u

The reconstruction of school building is sine qua non responsibility of state govt, but the school will have to go thru lot of rigmarole to get the aid, still they have to try this route first. If the school writes in clear appeal to Modi, I think most probably, he will see that the school gets the aid thru proper channel, which I think is a better idea, if state govt fails to act in time.
