Youth stabs girl to death for rejecting marriage proposal

Mumbai, Aug 9 (PTI): A youth allegedly stabbed an 18-year-old girl to death for rejecting his marriage proposal in suburban Vikhroli on Friday, the police said.

Accused Haroon Nadeem Sheikh (23) attacked the girl Afsaana Mohammed Choudhary with a chopper today morning at Ashok Nagar slums in Vikhroli, after which the profusely bleeding victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.

According to Assistant Police Commissioner (Vikhroli) Ramdas Gaikwad, the accused who worked in a shop at Vikhroli, was in love with the girl, who never reciprocated.

Gaikwad said that Sheikh had even proposed marriage to which the girl and her parents did not agree. Furious at the rejection, Nadeem, who stays in Govandi, reached the locality today morning, thrashed her, pulled out a chopper and stabbed her multiple times, he said.

The accused tried to escape but was caught by passers by and handed over to cops, Gaikwad said, adding that Sheikh was arrested on charges of murder and a further probe is on.
