Udupi, Aug 12: P Rajendra Prasad, who took charge as superintendent of police (SP) of Udupi district on Monday August 11, said that his top priority would be to maintain peace and harmony in the district and make the police department more people-friendly.

Addressing his first press conference after assuming his new charge, the SP said, "There is a need to change the prejudice against police department and the general perception that people have about police. Media must work as a bridge and not as a wall between the police and the public.

"Khaki (police uniform) represents sacrifice and service," he added.

"I will stress more on empathy than sympathy. I will review the rowdy sheeter list and keep an eye on potential rowdies," he said.

He also said that he would revive the Hoysala patrol teams in Udupi and added that he would also give chance to those who are in criminal lists, both locals and non-locals who have served their sentences, to come to the mainstream of society.

"Any person moving about in a suspicious manner will be arrested. We will create awareness among people about traffic and transport rules," he added.

He also proposed to revive the golden hour concept in dealing with accidents or emergencies, where victims are given medical attention within an hour by specialized teams.

"My ultimate aim is make the best and maximum utilization of the available human resources," he said.

He further said that he would conduct frequent workshops and training programmes on IPC and CRP for the benefit of the police personnel. He urged media and the public to cooperate with the police and not show any tolerance to illegal or immoral activities.

Rajendra Prasad had earlier served as SP of Chamarajnagar, Mysore for a period of two years. He has also rendered his service in the Mysore traffic police department. He served as DySP of Udupi in 2002 and also rendered his service in Hejamadi and Kundapur taluk.

Well, our new SP seems to have a great vision and hope he will be able to implement at-least some of those points suggested above before he get a TRANSFER ORDER !! First and foremost, SP must make fellow Dept officials understand that the Government has given them privilege of wearing ASHOK CHAKRA & STARS on their crisply ironed uniform by burning the state treasury not to do SHAVING of POLITICIANS but to PROTECT & SERVE all people impartially upholding the dignity of their positions. If our new SP can succeed in doing this, then, all the rest issues will fall in place. It has been ages since we seen, an officer like SANGLIANA in Udupi, perhaps in whole karnataka!! who was a nightmare to rogue politicians & anti-social elements. There are few Rowdy sheeters who are still operating actively from behind the scene on the pretext of SOCIAL WORK (WOLVES in SHEEP'S CLOTHING) which SP should carefully take notice of this before striking out their names from the list.

Police personal need training to be more human towards citizens. Most of them seems to be like licensed goondas. And on the top of it is the corruption. If Udupi SP P. Rajendra Prasad can improve their attitude in anyway, that would be a great service to general public. Wishing him all the success.

Mr. SP I commend your concern for a better public - police relationship, but doubt whether your own force agree with you. First ask your police to be impartial, use civil language, stop harrasing people who visit police station to file complaints. Dismiss the corrupt cops atleast when caught red handed. You people have not descended from heaven on this land, you too are part of the society we live, so do good for the society we you have power and capacity to do. Lastly is your police force properly trained and gender sensitised to deal with public in respectful manner?

I appreciate SP's various people friendly programs.
Hope people living around there join hands with the police force to make the area safer for everyone, especially the fairer gender.
Peoples' input to the police will be very helpful as long as police reciprocate the same.
SP saheb should first and foremost try and spruce up the police force there, some of who may be into some bad habits...
If that is done everything will work out well.... I am sure.

A very good way to begin with instilling confidence in the minds of the public. Indeed Mr. Rajendra Prasad has had a very good track record and will prove to be good officer.

His statement to the media is thought provoking .... Yes the media should be a bridge and not as a wall between the police and the people.

I join several well wishers of Mr. Prasad in wishing him a very satisfying and a fruitful tenure in the temple town of Udupi.
