New Delhi, Sep 3: The Cabinet Committee on Security on Saturday approved signing of the first-ever agreement between India and Germany for transfer of German hi-tech weapons technology and broader interaction between the armed forces of the two countries.
This was announced by Finance Minister P Chidambaram after a two-hour CCS meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The agreement would be concluded during the high-level visit of Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee to Germany and France beginning on Sunday.
The CCS approved a proposal of the Department of Defence Production for manufacturing of Light Combat Helicopter, he said, adding the project would be undertaken by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited at a cost of Rs 340 crore.
Chidamabaram said another proposal of the Defence Ministry for restoration of manpower and restructuring of Border Roads Organisation had been cleared. "As many as 5,071 personnel will be recruited in next three years in the BRO," the Finance Minister said.
