Margao, Sep 8: A case of theft in the Veer Vitthal temple at Madekotta has been registered in the Cuncolim Police station.
A local person, Sandeep Vaij, has lodged complaint in the police station saying that a stranger gained entry into the temple by breaking open the front door lock and committed the theft of a silver necklace, worth Rs 1500 and two alms boxes, containing about seven thousand rupees, in between Thursday morning to Friday evening.
Acting on the complaint, the police have arrested a suspect, Robert Mendes, and the nterrogation is in progress, said police constable attached to Cuncolim Police staion.
Over the last year, a spate of theft has taken place in religious places.

Margao: In a typically filmi style, a thief tried to flee from the hands of police, while he was being taken to the fast-track court in Karwar from Vasco by bus, but was nabbed again by the police with local help, on Friday at verna Industrial Estate.
Ramesh Laxman Nair (39) was in Vasco Jail for the last several months in connection with robberies in Margao and Vasco, and had also committed thefts in Karwar, in connection with which he was being taken for trial in Karwar court by bus.
According to sources when the bus reached Verna, Nair jumped off the bus and tried to run. But the police alarmed about the locals and with their help he was nabbed soon at the same place.
