Sathasivam reaches Kerala to take oath as governor


Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 4 (IANS): Former chief justice P. Sathasivam arrived here Thursday evening to take oath Friday as the new governor of Kerala.

He succeeds former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who had resigned last week and who flew out of the state Thursday.

Sathasivam, who will be sworn in Friday at the Raj Bhavan, was received by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other senior officials at the airport. He was also given a guard of honour.

Earlier, Dikshit was given a farewell by Chandy and his cabinet colleagues.

Sathasivam becomes the first former Supreme Court chief justice to become the governor of a state.
