Rajnath reviews Nagaland situation

New Delhi, Sep 4 (IANS): Home Minister Rajnath Singh, at a meeting here Thursday with Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang, reviewed the situation arising out of the economic blockade called by a Naga group.

Rajnath Singh assured Zeliang of all assistance from the central government in ensuring peace in the area, a home ministry statement said.

The blockade called by the United Naga Council began Thursday morning.

The central government issued an advisory Tuesday to the Nagaland government to take all preventive measures to ensure that highways are kept free, national projects are not disrupted and law and order is maintained.

Rajnath Singh has called upon all concerned to help maintain a conducive atmosphere and desist from violence.

The central government also called upon the Naga organisation to withdraw the economic blockade call and the ban on national projects.
