Marquez takes MotoGP pole


Sydney, Oct 18 (IANS): Newly-crowned world champion Marc Marquez from Spain Saturday took pole position for Sunday's Australian MotoGP in Phillip Island.

The Repsol Honda star timed one minute 28.408 seconds in Saturday qualifying, beating second-placed Ducati's Cal Crutchlow by 0.234 seconds and securing his 12th pole position of the year, reports Xinhua.

Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo was third.

Marquez nailed the world title in Japan last weekend with three races remaining in the season.
