Myanmar fined for fans' pitch invasion in AFC U-19

Yangon, Oct 20 (IANS): Myanmar's football authorities were Monday fined $24,000 after their fans invaded the pitch post a AFC U-19 Championships game here.

Hosts Myanmar beat the United Arab Emirates 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the AFC U-19 Championship Friday to clinch a place in the U-20 World Cup, reports Xinhua.

Dozens of fans, however, invaded the pitch to celebrate after the match.

The Asian Football Confederation's disciplinary committee fined the Myanmar Football Federation $24,000 after finding it had failed "to guarantee law and order as well as safety at the venue", the AFC said in statement.

Myanmar will meet Qatar to vie for a spot in the final of the U-19 Championship semi-finals.
