Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Oct 24: During the first six months of this financial year, the local airport has been used by 6.57 lac air passengers. Although the total number of air passengers during the first half of this year has registered an increase of four percent, there has been a decline in the passenger traffic within the country from here.

A press statement issued by airport director here, J T Radhakrishna, has revealed that 2.38 lac passengers from and to foreign destinations travelled through this airport, whereas 4.19 lac passengers travelled within India, during the period from April to September 30 this year. While the figure for international passengers was 1.92 lac last year, 4.40 lac passengers had used this airport for and from destinations within the country.

The statement analyzes that there has been marked decline in number of passengers leaving to smaller towns like Trichy, Madurai, Tirupati, Bhopal, Ahmedabad and Bhubaneshwar, reflecting in a fall in the number of indigenous passengers during this period. He has recalled that during the years 2012-13 and 2013-14, there was 15 and 21 percent increase in movement of passengers at this airport respectively. He felt that the number of passengers may go up if operators start operating new flights to national and international destinations from here.

Allthough a lot can be written about the problems of this airport for sure this comment will go unnoticed. Whats the point afterall? Who cares if this airport has a decline or a progress in the passenger moment. People travel by this airport cos they have no other option. Dear airport director meet the neccesity of the people first than proving yourself.

I appreciate efforts of airport director Mr. J T Radhakrishna. Please do not mix politics here. Handle MIA as a company you will surely see a Big growth. If I was the Director, I would have given more importance to bringing more Airlines to this airport and make it bigger and better planned for at least next 50 years and not for 5years. Please See my facebook page for more details on IXE.

The airport though looking spacious needs attention in some areas as noticed by a regular user of this Airport.
the movement of cars n taxis is not planned correctly. The taxis block the arrival area. Quite often the toilets are dirty ..A cafeteria in the car parking lot is urgently required as visitors can relax when they await their Passengers moreso when Flts are delayed. The International arrival hall is crowded as the area is too small .

Its simple more international connection more pax travel direct if not we have to fly to Mumbai, Bangalore or Chennai for intl connection which is actually a pain .. As there is also monopoly by certain domestic airlines servicing Mlore connection with rest of the country .. Will somOne look into the convenience of the pax too rather than just the numbers and provide adequate basic facilities at the airport.

Mangalore International Airport is the brainchild of dynamic bureaucrat Shri Vasudeva, Ex Director of Mangalore Airport. The need of the hour is, better facilities to ensure world class comforts for the passengers. I hope our MP,MLCs, MLAs and other leaders take necessary measures to ensure that, Mlore airport will be regarded as one of the best airports of our country!
