Guwahati, Sep 1: Three members of a family were killed and another injured after a landslide struck their house in Assam’s Guwahati on Tuesday, police said.

The incident occurred in the Mathgharia area while the family members were asleep, a senior police officer said.

A couple and their daughter were buried in the landslide. Their bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination, the officer said.

The couple’s son sustained injuries in the incident and was shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Incessant rainfall since early Tuesday is suspected to have triggered the landslide, according to officials.

Local residents said the deceased man worked as a daily wage labourer. The family, including their two minor children, had been living in the area for several years.

The incident comes as heavy rain continues to affect several parts of Guwahati, causing waterlogging and disrupting normal life in the city.
