Mangalore, Oct 25: "Democratic Youth Federation Of India (DYFI) district unit will take out a protest march from nearby Unity hospital to DC office on Wednesday October 29 at 10 am demanding to control the monopoly of private hospitals and strengthen the government hospitals and establish government medical college in the city", said DYFI state president Munir Katipalla.

He was addressing the press meet at DYFI district office here on Saturday, October 25.

He also alleged that, "Service sector like health is been commercialized, condition of government hospital in the city has been worsened. Poor cannot avail necessary medicines and benefits from the government hospital. In the city, private hospitals are taking advantage of deplorable condition of government hospitals and are involved in looting the poor patients with higher charges".

"Government has sanctioned 161 to the district, in which only 100 doctors are appointed. Though the government has sanctioned 1,874 posts for district health department, only 1,068 posts are filled in. Nearly 45% of posts are vacant in health department in district. Including the district Wenlock hospital, Lady Goschen and other government hospitals are not useful to poor people”, he added.

He also demanded that government should immediately start medical college in the district.

He said, "Today, Mangalore has been converted into a medical hub of private hospitals. Private doctors are taking more fee from the poor patients by subjecting them to unnecessary treatments. Though, there are certain rules and policy needed to be practised in the medical fields, privates hospitals are violating polices and charging more fee from the patients. Due to poverty, the patients are unable to pay the bill. They are not allowed to go home until they pay the bill. Inhumane treatments are practised in the private hospitals in the city".

On this occasion corporator Dayanada Shetty and district secretary Santhosh Bajal were present.

Why they want to take out morcha? To highlight the problem of Govt Hospital or expensive treatment given by Private Hospital? The General Mentality of common public is that when they can afford they will seek Private Hospital and when they can’t then they look for Govt Hospital and start complaining. It is very surprising that our MPs’ and MLAs’ seek medical treatment in expensive Private Hospital or go to foreign country with all expenses paid by same Govt!!! Just make a rule that all MPs, MLA’s and their eligible immediate family members should seek medical treatment at Govt Hospital only and then you see the difference

Yes, how true is Dr.Prakash Harishchandra but we can add a little more to this. Pls. make all the families of these so called GOI Top utives, i.e. Ministers and their families do ONLY and only, treatment in Government hospitals. Make them give a part of their salary to the poor for private treatment. Why are they sent abroad for treatment and how much do they spend on it and airfare, at the expense of us tax payers. This is enough said for the moment.

We have the oldest District Wenlock Hospital for so many years. This hospital is being run by KMC and is utilized to train their Under graduate and Post graduate students. Even some nursing colleges who do not have a hospital to train their nursing students use Wenlock Hospital as their training ground. By now thought should have been given to convert this age old Hospital into a full fledged Multi Speciality Medical and Dental College with modern equipment and facilities. So many people of Dakshina Kannada district and its surroundings could have utilised the facilities. Because of the lack of a Government medical college in our district, the private medical colleges and hospitals are thriving. It is high time our MLA U.T.Kader take up this matter as it has been dicided to sanction a Medical College to each district. At least now we could dream of having the Most Modern Multi Speciality Wenlock Medical and Dental College and Hospital for our district. The Private Hospital lobby is not in favour of such a dream for our district. May the people of the region rise up and take up the issue with the concerned authorities without which this will only remain a far fetched dream.

My personal view is that everyone should have general insurance, Im not talking about Life Insurance.
At maybe 1-20 Rs. per day a person can get insured for general disability and even some critical illness, Instead of doing protest these persons should make people aware of the importance of GENERAL insurance, the things which are advertised in the TV, are Life Insurance Products, they are useless in my opinion as they hardly provide any sort of Health cover in this case.
These DYFI have no right to talk about Private Hospitals or Colleges.
Have the poor people been displaced by the Hospital?
Have they contributed to the building in any way?
In India- you are poor because- You want to be poor, if you get off your bum and do some work and Regularly save instead of wasting money on Alcoholism and other vices.... You are opting to be poor... Why should a Hospital bear the High costs of treatment while not getting paid.
Have they highlighted how many patients abscond from the Hospital after receiving treatment? Does DYFI Sponsor the Hospital then?
Everyone knows someone with a link to some Minister or other... If they want a concession, approach benefactors, Apply for the CM or PM fund. this can be done. it is a simple process.
Hilariously, people even quote ministers drivers or shamefully PAs.. stating that," So and So minister's Driver is my far off relative, you must give concession"... I say Instead of looking like an idiot, do something about it, Insure yourselves with General Insurance, No body tell about this because the Cost is low:- 1 year(RS.365 for Rs. 1 lakh coverage) and there is virtually no incentive to the Agent.

DYFI Its absolutely correct, yes why do we need these private hospitals which buck all government rules. Why should Dakshina Kannada be the only large City in Karnataka not have a Government Medical College , we can have , a airport , port , MRPL , but not a medical college, The Health minister and his cronies are showing crocodile tears.. Its not only him all the private Medical college are the biggest cheats in Mangalore showing fake things right under the nose of the law with a open secret. The big tie wielding doctors who talk honesty in front of the media are the same working for this medical college mafia with out ethics except on paper.
Make sure you take all along and make it a bang bang success Be hard and take support of all youth organisation gherao the DC and the Minister and fake MLA locals.
