Mangalore, Oct 29: Prashanth Acharya (29) from Moodbidri, who was functioning as the priest of Goddess Kalikamba Temple at Ramamurthy Nagar Bangalore, died of electric shocks on Tuesday October 28. He was the son of Sadashiva Acharya from Kayarpundu in Puttige village near Moodbidri.

Prashanth had undergone education and training in Vedic rituals and scriptures at the centre located at Kalikamba Temple here. After working for sometime as assistant priest, he had been appointed as priest of the said temple at Bangalore a week back.

An electric cable supplying power to the temple premises had fallen off to the ground due to the heavy rain that lashed Bangalore on Monday night. Acharya, who was unaware of this development, was moving to a portion of the temple premises to hang his clothes to dry after taking bath, when he came in contact with the live wire that was lying on the ground. He died on the spot. The incident occurred at about 5.30 am.

The incident came to light when president of the temple managing committee visited the temple sometime later. Acharya's body bore severe burn injuries. After conducting postmortem at Bangalore, the body was brought to his native place on Tuesday evening.

Prashanth, who was unmarried, has left behind his mother.

Sad Incident. Heart felt condolences to his family members. May his soul rest in peace. We neglect, forgot the things so easily. We give less importance for Safety even at temple, home or any public gatherings. Here whom to blame an innocent has lost his life. Pray god that his family may get some compensation at least if the temple authority wishes so.

Gross negligence from the distribution company. WHAT KIND OF PROTECTION PEOPLE HAVE EVEN IF THE grounded live cable does not trip the system.
