Akshata, Shruthi among Ekalavya, Kreeda Ratna awardees

Bengaluru, Nov 6: The Minister for Sports and Youth Service, Abhaychandra Jain on behalf of the Karnataka state government has announced the 15 Ekalavya awards ,10 Kreeda Ratna awards and 4 life time achievement awards for the year.

The award presentation ceremony will be held at the Banquet hall of Vidhana Soudha on Thursday when the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will present the awards.


Akshata, Shruthi and Gopal Kharvi

Akshata Poojary, Shruti A R, Gopal Kharvi and Devendra Kotian are among the awardees from the region. Palimaru Devendra Kotian has won the Kreeda Ratna award for Kambala, a special sport from costal Karnataka.

The award includes a cash prize of Rs 2 lac and a memento.

Kreeda Ratna award Winners

Karnataka Kreeda Ratna is an award instituted to honour to the achievements of sports personalities in rural sports.

Shruthi A R (ball badminton)
Kumar S Jagadev, (ball lifting)
Vinay Kumar K H (kho-kho)
Maruti Y (mallakhamba)
Aishwarya M (mud wrestling)
Mohd Aakhib (throw ball)

Palimaru Devendra Kotian (kambala)
Gopala Kharvi (swimming with feet tied)
Nagananda Swami (jala stambhana)

The award includes a cash prize of Rs 1 lac and a memento.

The life- time awards

G Manoharan (Boxing), Mani (Kabaddi), Mohammed Dada Peer (football) and Sumitra Kumar M (bodybuilding) have been chosen for life-time awards and will receive Rs 1.5 lac along with a memento.


Others

The State will also honour the athletes who won laurels at the recent Asian Games and Para Asian Games.

M R Poovamma, who won a gold in women’s 4x400M relay and a bronze in the women’s 400M will receive Rs 33 lacs.

The minister also stated the government will not be felicitating two members of the women’s kabaddi team — Tejaswini Bai and Mamata Poojari — even though they hail from Karnataka as they no longer represent the State in any competitive tournament.
