Mangaluru, Nov 7: Former senior RSS Pracharak and former general secretary of Bharatiya Janashakthi Party, Vishwanath Suvarna, also known as 'Punjab' Vishwanath (67) passed away at his residence Pearl Apartment, near Forum Fiza Mall here on on Friday November 7.

Punjab Vishwanath was suffering from various ailments. He had a paralysis attack three years back. He was a diabetic patient who also had a kidney ailment.

About 15 days back he was admitted to hospital due to blood clot in his brain. After the operation, he went into coma and doctors suggested his family members to take him home.

Punjab Vishwanath and present Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi were close friends when they were in RSS. Vishwanath and Modi used to stay in Chandigarh. Vishwanath had struggled to unite the Sikh and the Hindus when there were communal clashes.

Later Vishwanath left RSS and joined Bharatiya Janashakthi Party with Uma Bharti and worked as a general secretary. After a few years he left the party and from the past 15 years was staying at his daughter's residence, engaging himself in social work.

He is survived with wife, two daughters and a son. The last rites will take place at 3 pm on Friday.
