New Delhi Nov 16 (IANS): The world's largest load-bearing wall panel - Glass Fibre Reinforced Gypsum (GFRG), the "Gypwall" - was launched here by Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar, the ministry said Sunday.
The panel, unveiled at the ongoing India International Trade Fair 2014, has dimensions of 12 by 3 metres and is 124 mm thick. It is lightweight and water proof, with a high-quality finish.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said: "The Gypwall can revolutionise the infrastructure sector of the country. It has been tested and approved by all the labs, including those from the US."
The panel is manufactured by FACT-RCF Building Products Ltd., a joint venture of Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore, Kochi, and state-run Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers.
Nearly 400,000 feet of prefabricated Gypwall has been dispatched from the factory to construction sites in various states, a statement said.
