Mumbai: Ganiga community holds annual sports meet–2014

Mumbai, Nov 17: Ganiga Samaja, Mumbai one of the prestigious associations of undivided Dakshina Kannada districts held their annual sports meet- 2014 at GSB sports club grounds at Kings circle at Matunga east on Sunday, November 16.

A day long sports meet was inaugurated by Ganiga Samaja president Jagannatha M Ganiga and founder member Nagesh Balimane by lighting the lamp. Ganiga Prakashana trust secretary Udaya Kumar Barkur, chief of Ganiga Samaja and businessman batted and set the sports in motion.

Speaking on the occasion, Udaya Kumar Barkur said, “Programmes such as these are conducive to maintain and nurture the existence of Ganiga Samaja. The competitions will strengthen the bond between them. Such tournaments should be held every year in order to bring the community closer”.

“It is gratifying to see the eighteen years old organization growing. We feel glad to see the growth of the association when compared to eighteen years ago. Eighteen years is the age to work hard and is also the age to show the strength of youth. The youth in our community should join and take the association further”, said Nagesh Balimane.

U Balachandra Katpadi, editor and publisher of Samparka Sudha magazine was the guest of honour. Social worker Ravindra M, Vidyodaya committee secretary Vijayendra Ganiga, Tara Bhatkal and others were present.

Hundreds of community members, youth and children participated in sports. They took part in drawing, throw ball and Cricket showing their talents.

Kurla killers team won first prize in cricket and Mira road Rockers team won second prize. Sports conveners Asha Harish Thonse, Suma Ganesh Kutpadi, Shobha Rathnakar Shetty, Mamatha Devendra Rao, Ganesh Kutpadi and other office bearers were present.

Jagannatha M Ganiga welcomed. Vice-presidents Ramachandra Ganiga and Bhaskar M Ganiga Kutpadi presented bouquets to the guests and honoured them.
Ganesh Kutpadi, Shanker Hanehalli, secretary B V Rao led the prayer, gave a key note address and compered the programme.

Treasurer Chandrashekar Ganiga proposed vote of thanks.
