Mangaluru: CITU protest against MCC

Mangaluru, Nov 18: Street-side vendors concentrated in-front of MCC under the banner of Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Tuesday November 18 condemned the move of the corporation to evict the vendors earning their livelihood roadsides exhibiting protest demonstration.

Addressing the protesters honorary president of CITU Sunil Kumar Bajal hit out MCC saying the corporation has betrayed the vendors depriving the opportunity of livelihood. "Though we met Mayor and commissioner a few number of times to end eviction no action has been taken," he told.


He further speaking said there was no option for the street vendors than to come to the street to demand their right. The MCC has to stop clearing street vendor's shop thus protecting their lives. He added the MCC was deliberately levelling baseless allegations against vendors to serve the vested interests of the city.

Bajal pointed that giant hotels in the city was providing below par food and MCC seem to have turned blind eye on the same. "If any street vendor seen selling substandard or perished food item MCC should specifically take action and not on all the vendors."

He also urged the MCC to start food corners in the city to as an alternative place for the evicted street vendors. The protesters were seen raising slogans against the MCC. The president of CITU, Mohammad Musthafa and general secretary Santosh Kumar were present during the protest.

    Hawkers existence is connected with socio economical problems.one have earn to live. But it should not create problem to traffic and public movement,MCC while evicting such vendors should provide alternative place and give them licence and take moderate rent.
