Bengaluru: Police say no to 'Kiss of Love' in city

Bengaluru, Nov 26 (DHNS): The City police have refused permission for the controversial “Kiss of Love” event to condemn moral policing on November 30 here on the grounds that it promotes obscenity.

Police Commissioner M N Reddi said Rachitha Taneja, one of the organisers, had submitted a petition before the DCP (Central) seeking permission to hold the event on November 30.

The police wanted to ascertain the number of people participating in the event. Taneja said the organisers were not aware of the number of participants and refused to owe responsibility for any untoward incident during the event.

The police collected information from a neighbouring state where a similar event was organised and realised that such an event in a public place promotes obscenity. So permission was refused, said the commissioner.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Reddi said: “The organisers of Kiss of Love event failed to furnish crucial details sought by the Bengaluru Police. Moreover, they refused to owe responsibility for any untoward incident during the event. Hence, the police refused permission.”

The commissioner clarified that permission was refused under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code (obscene acts and songs) and provisions under the Karnataka Police Act 65.

The aim and objective of the event remained unknown. After much deliberations and considering the pros and cons, the police decided to refuse permission, Reddi added. As the number of people supporting the event went up by the day, so did those opposing it.

    Hey Lawrence,

"So called" Indian culture is well defined. Instead of commenting on allegorical Indian myths, spend some time on trying to understand the reasoning behind them. You seem to have been fed on wrong history, therefore, stop showing off your "so called" superior intellect in the comment section.

Whenever there is a question of social morality, "so called" pseudo intellectuals like you bring forth the question of urinating and defecating in public. Don't you have the understanding that Kissing and relieving oneself are two different actions? One can wait, the other cannot. It's involuntary. Morality gets denigrated due to slow spiraling of values. Hope you have the perception to understand what my response means and you not rebut just for the heck of it or to prove you are right!

Kissing is a freedom of expression of love and affection. It cannot be done without the consensus of two individuals.

Kissing is the part of Indian culture, especially when British were ruling India. The so called "Indian Culture" is debatable anyway. BTW, who is the Administrator of Indian Culture? I have a question for him.

Culture and traditions evolves over time. We have evolved from offering human sacrifice, Sathi, Devadasi system, naked procession of young women and five brothers marrying one woman.

People will find their way to give a kiss of love either in public or private. It doesn't harm anyone. Government is simply wasting its resources by encouraging the moral policing. If possible, make it illegal to defecate in public.

All idiots over here bring up culture and morality excuse to suppress freedom.

The main issue over here is moral policing. Why is there no action against such people. We people call our self civilized. But if we are how come we cant tolerate freedoms of others

Include the organizers/participants in the list of anti-social elements along with moral police and culture protectors. Those who encourage or advocate immoral activities (in the pretext) are no less than anti-social elements.

Yes kissing in public is immoral and not need of the hour whereas pissing can become need of the hour and hence its not immoral in our country. This is not a foreign country. Some fools need to take note of this. If some people think that kissing is okay and then try organising the kiss of love event in front of aligarh university and prove your guts!

Saw some visuals of the 'Kissing at Kochi'! Must confess that many Indians do not know how to kiss even! Even the over enthusiasts! The pose some give is like grazing in a meadow or something of that kind! For a country which does not how to 'kiss properly', this has no bearing at all on the population number which in any case is growing at an alarming rate! So no importance at all for 'kiss' here!it does not even qualify as a 'preparatory test'!
