IOA holds talks with National Games officials


Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 15 (IANS): High-level talks were held here Thursday between the visiting members of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the officials of the 35th National Games organising committee.

The Games will be held at 30 venues across seven districts of the state from Jan 31 to Feb 14. As many as 11,000 athletes and 2,500 technical officials will take part in the sporting event.

The IOA team was led by S.M. Bali and K. Murugan while the Kerala team was led by state Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. The visiting IOA team will finish inspecting the venues by Friday.

In a presentation, Radhakrishnan said Kerala is fully geared to host the event and things have fallen in place for the smooth conduct of the event.

The IOA team, that visited two venues, expressed happiness atn the way the organisers have gone about to host the event. The IOA team is expected to make its final assessment Friday.

Meanwhile, a high-level delegation of national broadcaster Doordarshan, led by Mahesh Joshi, also went around the various venues to finalise their plan of action for the nationwide telecast of the Games.
