Sullia, Jan 29: Forty-six villages will be observing bandh on Friday January 30 to put pressure on the concerned against the implementation of Kasturirangan report. Villagers from all these places are scheduled to meet at Subrahmanya to show solidarity with the leaders who have been fighting against the said report, which the farmers claim, is detrimental to their interests. Malnad Janahita Rakshana Vedike convener, Kishore Shiradi, and farmer leader, Harish Injady, informed at a press conference held at Subrahmanya on Wednesday that schools and colleges in these places will remain closed for the day.

The leaders said that so far none of the governments have given any concrete assurance against the implementation of the said report. Therefore, the protest meeting is being held to bring unity, and to enable leaders to put forth their opinions and plans of action to stall the report before the people, they explained.

They said that all the farmers from these 46 villages will converge in Subrahmnya in vehicles to take part in the public protest to be held at 2 pm that day. They added that legislators, religious leaders, party representatives, and farmer leaders will be addressing the meeting. Harish Injady said that the meeting of the sub-committee on the report was postponed twice, and warned people to be very careful in considering reports which may be presented before them in a devious manner.

Sri Vidyaprasannateertha Swamiji of Subrahmanya Math, Beltangady Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhi, MP,Nalin Kumar Kateel, Puttur MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, Sullia MLA, Angara, Beltangady MLA, Vasant Bangera, Virajpet MLA, K G Bopaiah, Karkala MLA, Sunil Kumar, and several others will be taking part. After the protest meeting, a consultative meeting with people's representatives, in which only a limited number of people including media will be allowed to participate, will be held, they explained.
