SC verdict detrimental to local languages: Siddaramaiah

Hassan, Feb 2: (DHNS) Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Sunday the Supreme Court order on the mother tongue as the medium of instruction was detrimental to not only Kannada, but also other regional languages in the country.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 81st Kannada Sahitya Sammelana here.

The chief minister said that the regional languages should be supreme and should become the medium of instruction in their respective states.

Siddaramaiah said that under the federal structure, there was room for learning other languages, but at the same time preserving the autonomy of the local language.

He said that the State would initiate steps for making Kannada the medium of instruction from class I to class V, by way of amending the Right to Education Act, 2012.

He said that he would take a delegation of all party leaders to meet the prime minister on the issue of making the mother tongue as the medium of instruction.

Siddaramaiah said that he had also written to the chief ministers of other states in this regard.

The chief minister said that the private educational institutions were harming the interests of Kannada through their push for English.

Siddaramaiah promised the gathering that the government would not interfere n the functioning of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, in keeping with the tradition since its inception on May 3, 1915.

In karnataka, Kannadigas are less than 50%. However Kannadigas have been imposing their mother tongue on others, such as Konkanas, Tuluvas, Kodavas, Maratas(Belgaum), Karnataka Tamils & Telugas, byaris etc. If mother tongue has to be taught, let them allow us to study in konkani, tulu and teach everyone in their mother tongue. First of all karnataka should be broken into smaller states to stop this imposing of their language on us. Because of kannada Tulu and Konkani have gone to the side line.

In modern world the language of "English" reigns supreme, as it encompasses Scientific, Technical, Medical and Even Legal terminology.
How long will we survive without the mentioned four, let alone we cant move out of Karnataka with Kannada and out of India with Hindi,Unless we would sit in insider our four walls.
Language issue is just a political gimmick, will not sustain.

Only in Dakshina Kannada,Udupi & Uttara Kannada district mostly you can find people(of course educated)speak in proper Kannada.Other places people have fad of showing their proficiency in English by mixing Kannada and English. There are so called 'Kannada Protection Groups' formed by few people in Bangalore. You will be shocked to hear their Kannada both in grammar and their Kannada pronunciations.
Good Kannada if exists, it is in these districts only.

Let Politicians not decide what people want and impose on them.
It is a era of need based provision.
People will learn the language and subjects of their choice and interest that benefits them!
    Let them decide.
If they have sentiments and interest they will learn.
    Forcing will be detrimental!

Let the parents and students decide what they want to learn since they pay fees to the schools at their choice….. CM Siddu…..forget about the autonomy of any regional languages at least appoint one teacher per class in any school irrespective of number of students in that school!!!!!!! And try to pay their salary on monthly basis too

Today is an age of productivity and the survival of the fittest. Our children should possess full practical education and training for different line of work as per their choice to earn livelihood. Art and languages should be secondary and those who love them, be given a chance to learn and for others, do not force on them.
