Udupi: MIT student dies after falling from fourth floor of apartment

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (UM)

Udupi, Feb 2: A student of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) died after he fell from the fourth floor of an apartment at Manipal here on Monday February 2. The circumstances that led to his death are uncertain, with two different versions emerging.

The deceased, identified as T Punith Reddy (20), son of T Rajashekar Reddy of Andhra Pradesh, was a computer science student at MIT.

It is learnt that Punith fell from the fourth floor of the apartment at around 3.30 am on Monday, and breathed his last in the hospital some hours later.

Punith's father Rajashekar Reddy who resides in Andhra was informed by phone about the incident, after which he came to Manipal.

In a complaint filed in the Manipal police station, Reddy expressed suspicions that other students had pushed Punith from the balcony of the apartment.

However, police sources said that a party was held on Sunday night, and Punith, in an inebriated state, smashed the television of his roommates, who left him alone. A few minutes later, when he saw some people coming, he grew frightened and jumped off the balcony, police sources said.

A case has been registered in Manipal police station and investigations are on.

RIP. It is a sensitive age where bad influence plays a role. Parents need to monitor and speak to Children time to time. Students need to take responsibility for their life. They are mature enough watch their movements..

Do not judge as the actual reasons for his death are unknown. According to recent reports no drugs wer found in his body. Also raising the perm time or being more strict with the rules are not going to change anything. Students will still find a way to break them and will feel compelled to try things even more. Drug use can be due to different reasons, not because parents have spoilt their kids. It could be due to pressure, pleasure or helplessness. And its not only rich kids who indulge... Sometimes you find that the rich kids are better off. Its all about having your head on your shoulders. Stop blaming parents and the university. And this kid has just lost his life. Stop speculating and pray for his soul.

No point in blaming rich parents or college authorities or for that matter even police! .These students are matured enough to understand what is good and what is bad for them...They know the consequences of taking drugs or being in a bad company...Blame the students for not being responsible enough !

We cannot simply blame parents, Teachers, Police etc. for anything and everything that happens in the society.
First of all, it is the affluence and bad company or friend circle (including political influence) which plays a major role with present generation to fall victim to such menace and spoil their life.
Alcohol, drugs, addiction etc. used to be there in the past too. What youngsters do behind parents back remains a secret and parents always think highly about their sons or daughters? (I am not generalizing). When the youth forgets self-conscience and fear of God, things are bound to go on wrong direction and destroy life. Some people correct them selves and few go astray.

In a way I agree, but the problem is that this area is infested deeply with the drug malaise since long all because of rich NRIs and others send their spoiled brats just to get a degree by the power of money!! In such toxic environment, the chances of a good apple getting rotten are very very high because rotten apples are much much more in proportion to good apples!!

Police are not strict enough in Manipal to curb the menace of Alcohol/drugs among students.College authorities are also not taking enough precautions to avoid such incidents. Unfortunately Education has become business in India. Students also not understanding the hardships of their parents who want their children to be better educated.

    RIP!!

Manipal and surrounding areas are notoriously famous for drugs/alcohol (probably it will be beating hands down even notorious campuses in Mumbai too) among students since decades due to influx of filthy rich students gaining admission by paying sky high capitation fees, most of them are spoiled brats and join mostly to have fun and gain a degree!!

Recently a priest who is based in Manipal was assertively commenting that lots of moral degradation has taken place in this area!!

As somebody has pointed out somewhere, parents are already getting aware of this ever increasing incidence of intoxicating agents, and parents have to do due diligence and study the pros and cons before sending their wards in this area!! Jai Hind!!

The power of drinks if consumed over the limit may supersede Devil power and slight irritation from others may change into uncontrolled brawl which may turn into a fatal situation.
Some drink to enjoy and some to create nuisance. (no questions please)

@Joe d souza Mangalore, dont give the fault always to western culture .Partys and drug Business has all over the world is there.but at present India seems to be topping than western.Even parents with hard earned Money are just throwing Money to their foot without teaching them the value of Money or work hard for their Money.when they know the worth of Money they would nt just spend it .some are taking bath in Money. There are agents who sell drugs to children without thinking about their future. Here only Money ruling.some find it is hard to go on with studies, they start take drugs.some are because of their parents said to study are there.when they fail, are afraid of parents ,not toget Money.so what is alternative? They are not used to work, either with Money got notes,or with Vitamin B(big Boss). Not everyone is so sometimes, company.very hard for this Boys Family to accept his unusual death.Heartfelt sympathy to the Family.May his Soul rest in peace.

Absolutely, 1st the parents have to be blamed for sending excess money to their children and they dont even bother to ask them what they have done with such a huge amount. What is the use in crying afterwards?

These kind of things are going on more frequently in Manipal... or rather should i say are increasing day by day ...One can see young girls and boys roaming around being high on drugs every weekend in the perampally road . .. There are plenty of the so called bars which openly sell drugs to the students and ruin their innocent lives. .. All the popular education institutions in and around manipal are very well aware of the drugs and alcohol being sold and available in their hostels... but still no such things are spoken about openly And the authorities turn a blind eye to theses problems...Media is also quiet and tries to cover up these issues as they are all hand in gloves. . Just a word of caution especially to NRI parents. ..please think about all these issues prior to enrolling your kids.

This place is infamous for drugs since decades, I still remember two of my friends who graduated in the late 80s, who had come to Mumbai for work, had become hardcore addicts after studying in this area, just imagine it was very much prevalent during those times, you can imagine how much it might spread its tentacles now and more so with rampant corruption seeping in all areas of life!!! Jai Hind!!

This is not the first incident in Manipal. Pampered too much by the parents by over-paying "pocket money" to the kids ultimately they have to suffer like this. It is however unfortunate that in spite of such tragedies, the parents never realize their fault.

Western Culture of Party life is entering our culture families. Drugs are plenty too. Just recently I was standing near Light house Mosque. Near the Sugar cane juice place drugs were shared between boys. I was shocked and observed them for a while. Instead of going home and spending time, they were wondering late night. As the time passed they were behaving like flying in the wind. Most of them were from Kerala residing in a apartment complex nearby as per one boy. Parents are sending them for good future and these ones are having good time and killing themselves.

In such incidents the truth never comes out as police are also eager to close such things as accident. Just remember a Kerala student of AJ Medical college died near Thanneer Bhavi few months back with his head completely severed as if cut with sword, but still police said it was accident and even the CID investigation ordered by Home Minister was futile.

Students consume alcohol get into intoxicating stage and quarrel on unnecessary issues that leads to dangerous consequences. Consumption of alcohol in both male & female hostel rooms must be prohibited. A surprise check by hostel warden routinely be conducted with alcohol meter and guilty must be warned/punished
