Mangaluru, Feb 7: J R Lobo, MLA Mangaluru South, on Sunday February 8 inaugurated a free inspirational training programme on competitive exams organized by Aathma Shakthi Cooperative Society at Sarvamangala hall, Garodi, Kankanady here.
The training programme was held for students of SSLC, PUC and degree who plan to pursue careers in administrative services.
J R Lobo, who inaugurated the occasion by lighting the lamp, said, "There are many positions available in government services but the number of people from undivided Dakshina Kannada applying for these positions is less. This may be because of certain notions or lack of knowledge. There are as many opportunities in government sector as there are in the private sector, but the respect what you get from government job cannot be earned in private job.
"Along with good benefits like salary and allowances, you can also serve the society. When you render good service and help to the society, people will always remember you. If today I am a legislator from this region, it is because people remember my services as a government servant. Today there are many opportunities - you can write competitive exams in Kannada and other languages, unlike earlier where you had to write only in English. Hard work is the key for success. Only your efforts and God's blessings can lead you towards your goal. I wish all the best to all of you," Lobo told the students.
A B Ibrahim, deputy commissioner, said, "Dakshina Kannada is unique in all fields, but no one is aspiring for government services. We called invitations for 50 positions for village accountant but none of them from this region chose to apply.
"The first prerequisite for competitive exam is time management. People desist thinking government jobs merely fetch Rs 10,000-20,000, but it is an opportunity to serve people. Most of the recruitment for government jobs is fair," he added.
Dr Sharanappa, superintendent of police, told the students, "I would like to congratulate all of you on taking interest in government jobs. Dakshina Kannada is first in education and healthcare but when it comes to competitive exams, no one is interested. This district is unique. People have misconception that only those with money will get government jobs. As our former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam quotes, 'Aiming low is a crime'. Dr Kalam also says, 'Dreams are not those which come when you are sleeping but those which make you sleepless'. From my 6th standard to PhD, I did not spend a single rupee on education, I got it all through scholarship. So it is a wrong notion that only people with money can get jobs in this field. We can render service in any field, but the respect that we earn in government service will remain for a long time."
Prameela, zonal commissioner, MCC, Pitambara, former SP, Dr Ganesh Amin, lecturer St Aloysius College and Chittaranjan K were the other dignitaries on the dais.
