Mangaluru: Jubilant AAP celebrates party's success in Delhi

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 11: A day after their party led by Arvind Kejriwal registered a historic win in the Delhi Assembly elections, jubilant members of the local unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday February 11 marched the streets of the city celebrating the party's unprecedented comeback in the national capital.

Wearing the quintessential AAP caps, carrying banners and weilding brooms, the party's symbol, scores of AAP members marched from Dr Ambedkar Circle to Mahatma Gandhi statue near Town Hall, chanting slogans hailing Kejriwal. The rally was inaugurated by AAP local unit head Dr Marcy Pinto.

Men, women and children were part of the victory rally. Slogans such as 'Paanch saal Kejriwal' (Kejriwal for five years), 'Aaj Delhi, naale illi' (Today Delhi, tomorrow here) resonated the air.

Local AAP leader Alexander D'Souza garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi along with a child.

Addressing the gathering, AAP local unit treasurer Rajendra Kumar said, "After the last Delhi elections, Arvind Kejriwal was ridiculed as AK-49 (for his short term as CM). Now Delhi has given its verdict and he's called AK-67 (number of seats AAP won)."

He further remarked, "With AAP getting majority, it is a win-win situation for all in Delhi. Before the elections, both AAP and BJP wanted Congress wiped out, and that is what happened; and also, Congress and AAP both did not want BJP to come to power, and again that is what happened.

"The steps towards building a corruption-free India have begun in Delhi. It should spread throughout the country," he added.

Alexander D'Souza thanked the volunteers, AAP members and the general public for turning out for the rally and said, "AAP's win in Delhi has broken the back of caste politics and kindled a national spirit in all Indians. The ideology of AAP should spread all over India. All must work towards making India a corruption-free country and number one nation in the world."

AAP songs were played on the occasion and music bands added to the festivity.

General secretary of AAP DK unit Abdul Lathif, Rohan Siri, M R Vasudeva, Imtiyaz, Molly Pinto and others were present.

rightly said honesty and sincerity won in delhi. its applicable everywhere honesty and sincerity will always win.if you had added humanity to that it wouldve been perfect. the three words are fading fast in todays world.once in a while it should be highlighted to bring awareness that we live on earth and first of all we should be humans.

I can forsee BJpoojary who is being sidelined by the congress leadership now(if you see his press conference you always see more of unknown new and junior faces, even his pre election friend Ibrahim Kodijal has left the dead horse now) may join AAP to carry on his crusade. Because of course he will not get MP ticket next time, and without that BJPoo will be like fish out of a pond seeing Moiley faction grow in congress. BJP or any other parties will be anymore forced to put eligible candidates than the graduates form Sangh parivaar university. Minority vote bank appeasement will not work as they will shift to AAP, Some over night chaddiless dongis in the forum who are acting like they support AAP now, will be left with na ghar ka na ghat ka, because their party will be more aligning towards appeasing Hindus then. Whatever said and done, Corruption will decrease, votebank appeasement politics will end thus bringing an end to corruption communal politics. But yes its a long journey.

I am very glad about the success of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. There is no doubt Mr Kejriwal has done something uncommon, extraordinary and outstanding by scooping up 67 of the 70 Assembly seats in the capital. The polls were viewed by many analysts s a popularity test for Mr Modi, who had campaigned aggressively in Delhi for the BJP candidate, Kiran Bedi.
There is no doubt, the AAP mobilised the widespread discontent among ordinary people with conventional politics, offering them a new hope, of politics that offers clean and sensitive governance. What were the important issues in this election? Simply, the same bread-and-butter issues – corruption, water supply, energy, law and order – that dominated the previous New Delhi state election. Mr Kejriwal´s victory is an indication that voter dissatisfaction about these basic issues remains deep, despite Mr Modi´s promises to make everything better. But especially in Delhi, a city where natural resource constraints, corruption, and crime remain critical challenges. After the overwhelming victory of the AAP in Delhi an important question must find a solution, how can the AAP solve the enormous problems? The political programme of the AAP is very interesting and offers partly solutions. What I find too in the political programme, if possible to talk about a final political programme of the AAP, is, people, who support the idea of democratic socialism typically believe that decisions in a society should be made by considering the needs of all of the people, not just the wealthy or powerful. This applies to economic and social decisions. Some important beliefs among democratic socialists are that resources and wealth should be used to benefit all members of a society and that economic institutions should be controlled and owned by people who are affected by them. They also typically believe in the ideal of all members of a society having a voice in the decisions that affect them. This stands in contrast with the communist form of socialism, in which an all-powerful government owns all the resources and industries, and decisions are made for the people instead of by them. A society living in a system of democratic socialism also would be committed to meet the needs of all its citizens. A wide variety of needs would be met through social programmes that are designed to benefit every citizen and ensure a high quality of life. Examples of such programmes include universal childcare, free or subsidised education, national healthcare systems that provide access for all and other social services. And under democratic socialism, the government usually is envisioned as being controlled by the citizens, with the primary goal of making decisions to benefit society as a whole. This democracy would be characterised by equality among people as well. It is a dream, but sometimes dreams become true and the AAP could lead India one day to a better future.
