Mangalore, Feb 16: A lab assistant of NIT-K Suratkal was killed when a rickshaw knocked him down on National Highway 13 at Gurpur on Thursday February 15 afternoon.

Ganesh Rao (54), a resident of NIT-K Campus at Suratkal was crossing road at Gurpur after alighting from a bus to visit Gurpur temple when a rickshaw hit him. As a result he sustained serious injuries and died on the spot.

Ganesh Rao was a lab assistant in NIT-K Suratkal and was the resident of Srinivasnagar.  His death came as a big shock to entire NIT-K Campus which was bustling with joy with the celebration of Incident - 07.  However, all the programmes were called off following the untimely demise of Ganesh Rao.

Ganesh Rao had recently completed 25 years of his service in NIT-K and has planned to go to Mumbai in the next week on vacation.  His wife is an employee with Vijaya Bank in Mysore whereas their only daughter is a student of Nitte Engineering College.

A condolence meet was held at NIT-K later in the evening which was presided over by director Sandeep Sancheti.

Bajpe police have registered a case against rickshaw driver Chennappa Poojary in this regard.
