UAE fighter jets join Saudi-led campaign in Yemen

Dubai, Mar 28 (IANS): The United Arab Emirates (UAE) military command has said here a number of fighter jets joining the Saudi-led "Decisive Storm" air campaign on some positions of Shiite Houthi group in Yemen.

Reports on Friday said the UAE fighter jets struck command and control centers, and supply centers in Yemen's oil producing Marib region, Xinhua reported citing state news agency WAM.

No details were given about the exact number of planes and when the strikes took place.

The UAE, a key Saudi ally, said earlier this week that it ordered 30 fighter jets to participate the military campaign, which aims to restore the "legitimate" government under President Abd-Rabbo Mansour Hadi.

Earlier on Thursday, Hadi fled the Yemeni southern seaside city of Aden to Riyadh after the Shiite Houthi fighters were closing in on the city to capture him.

On Friday, Hadi arrived in Egypt's resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh on Friday to attend the Arab summit.

The summit is expected to further discuss the situation in Yemen and the recent proposal by Arab foreign ministers to establish a united Arab military force for immediate interference among Arab states when necessary.

Ramprasad..Its a war of sects which follow different path..this is historical truth..there are 2 main player in ME, those are the 2 largest countries which follows different 2 branches of a faith..these countries always play vital role how other smaller countries rule & whom they support..they topple Govts, install their own supported men to control like colony..there are completely divided 2 groups of countries which support or oppose each other based on their religious faith..Present situation in SYRIA/YEMEN/IRAQ is result of shadowy, proxy war of these 2 groups..they create & support radical groups as proxy, which created havoc in ME..US&WEST plays both side as per their convenient..earlier they were openly involved in these conflicts now their support limited to indirect assistance since their open support invited trouble in their home..

Democracy doesn't hold good for middle-east...Among arabian peninsula except yemen every other country is dictatorial but it is developed well compared to their poor neighbour yemen...
Second factor is all the GCC members have rich petroleum resource yemen is the only country which lacks such petroleum wealth that is the other reason for its poor state no western country will support if you dont have petro wealth....
Yemen was once lead by communists ,like palestine movement...western countries led anti communist movement for pro democracy which made Islamist gain its foothold...similarly baathist party or iraq or syria led by saddam and assad were leftist since US tried to topple it by backing Islamist it fell into the hand of Islamist....Libyan Gaddafi too was not any conservative or Islamist when Wesrern countries toppled his regime backing Islamist it fell into the hand of Islamist...
It doesnt matter whether you are democratic or dictatorial when people is well looked upon and meets their basic needs democracy or autocracy it doesnt matter....It is responsibility of yemens arab neighbours to rescue yemen from chaos...

United Arab military force is the need of the day, considering western interests of military intervention only when they have collateral benefits.
Yemen is poor country, so west is not interested in what is happening there.
Thanks to the progressive thinking leaders of UAE taking a lead in this regard.

    Progress thinking?
They do not want Shias (read Iran) encircling them. It is actually meddling in the internal affairs of another country.
