Kasargod: Boy killed in hit-and-run accident, brother seriously injured

Kasargod, Apr 26: In a tragic incident, a six-year-old boy died after being hit by a speeding car while crossing the road on Friday April 25 night at Eriyal on the outskirts of Kasargod here. His brother sustained serious injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Khader (6), son of Lateef, a merchant residing at Battampare, Vidyanagar.

Khader's brother Shahul (8) has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru with serious injuries.

The accident took place at around 10 pm on Friday. The brothers along with family members had come to Eriyal to attend a relative's wedding. The boys went to a nearby bakery to buy ice creams and were crossing the road on their way back, when a speeding car hit them and sped away without stopping.

The boys were rushed to hospital by the locals but Khader breathed his last on the way. Shahul who was critical injured is in the ICU.

Soon after the incident, the police began gathering information about vehicles that passed through Karandakkad. They also scanned through CCTV images to trace the car.

Meanwhile, the alert locals informed the police about the car and wasting no time, the police traced it at Naimarmoola and took it into their possession. However, whether the same car was involved in the accident will be known only after forensic examination, police said.

As news of a car being traced spread, the locals gathered in front of the police station and protested demanding arrest of the driver. The police had to resort to mild lathi charge to disperse the mob.

The body was shifted to Kasargod General Hospital and after post-mortem, handed over to the family.

Kasargod town police have registered a case.
