Document leak case covered under OSA : Police tells court

New Delhi, April 27 (IANS): Delhi Police on Monday told a court here that further investigation was on in the petroleum ministry documents leak case as the offence was covered under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

The police submission came while opposing the bail plea of Jubilant Energy's official Subhash Chandra, accused in the case. The public prosecutor told Additional Sessions Judge Raj Kapoor that the police recovered six sets of documents from Chandra which he was possessing unauthorisedly.

The prosecution added that the documents were not in public domain and said: "It is an offence under the OSA but it has not yet been slapped. The inquiry is going on."

Chandra's counsel Sandeep Kapur said that no secret documents have been recovered from the possession of his client, who has been in custody for over two months."

The court reserved its order on the bail plea of Chandra for April 30.

Meanwhile, the court adjourned the bail hearing of other four corporate executives for April 29 as none of defence counsel sought adjournment on the ground that lawyers' body are observing strike.

Police have formally charged 13 people under various sections dealing with cheating, forgery, trespass, theft, common intent and criminal conspiracy in a chargesheet filed on April 18.

Delhi Police registered a first information report on February 17 for the leak of classified documents related to various ministries, including petroleum and natural gas.
