Mangalore, Apr 3: It was the first press meet at the newly-constructed Patrika Bhavan, addressed by Mayor Vijaya Arun, who announced the sanctioning of markets at Bejai and Mallikatta in the city on Monday April 2.

She said that the state government has given the technical approval to the construction of Kadri-Mallikatta and Bejai markets and the tender has been invited for Rs 1 crore in this regard.

She also said that the government is expected to sanction the construction of a market at Urwa Store. The MCC also plans to lay concrete base at the Kankanady Market and has invited a tender of Rs 17.5 crore in this regard, she said.

Regarding road repair works, she said that the ongoing concreting work between Jyothi and Hampankatta will go on till May and the second phase from Jyothi to Pumpwell will start after monsoons from November.

MCC also plans to convert Kankanady-Mangaladevi road in to four lanes and lay concrete on the Bunder-Jumma Masjid and the Lalbagh-Bejai roads, she informed.

Among those present were deputy mayor Abdul Saleem, chief whip Krishnappa Mendon, standing committee presidents Mahabala Marla, Gilbert Pinto and Deepak Poojary.
