Puttur, Apr 6: In a tragic incident that took place in Padavannur-Koramoole near the Kerala boundary in the taluk, a couple drowned in a pond on Thursday morning.

Puttur rural police said that a housewife Jayalakshmi (30) was picking mangoes in the garden and while doing so she accidentally slipped into a pond nearby. Her husband Naveen (35) immediately rushed to her rescue. In his attempt to save her life, he drowned along with Lakshmi.

Because of a deep layer of silt in the pond, they could extricate themselves and died soon after drowning, the police said further.
