Mangalore, Apr 17: In the light of the recent incident of a teacher in Gadag committing suicide following harassment at work, the Karnataka Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (KPMCC) has demanded a 50 per cent reservation for women in School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMCs).

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday April 16, KPMCC general secretary Shyamala Bhandary said that reservation is essential to deal with the problem of harassment of women in schools.

She also lashed out against the government’s proposal to privatise mid-day meals and said that such a move will render thousands of women Akshara Dasoha employees jobless.

Among those present were mayor Vijaya Arun, district INTUC women’s wing chief Gretta Rebello, ZP member Anita Hemant Shetty, corporator Appi, Yashwanti Alva and Emilda Pinto.
