Mangalore, Apr 18: In a daylight theft in a temple at Gollarakeri, thieves have decamped with valuables along with Rs 8,000 in cash on Wednesday April 18 afternoon.

Bunder police sources said that thieves broke open into Shree Veera Hanuman Temple at Gollarakeri around 12 noon on Wednesday.  Since it was mid-afternoon, the number of devotees coming to the temple too was on the smaller side.  This helped the thieves to steal valuables.

The thieves have stolen Rs 8,000 in cash, a few silver ornaments of deities and an idol of Lord Hanuman.

The total value of the stolen ornaments has not yet been established.  Bunder police have already visited the place.  Sniffer dogs were even summoned to the spot.

A case has been booked by Bunder police in this regard.  More details are still awaited.

Temples and other worship places are gradually becoming soft targets of thieves these days.  Though it has nothing to do with decreasing devotion among the modern generation towards temples and holy places, it has something to do with the recent trend of commercialization of these places, commented an elderly man while speaking to the correspondent just outside the temple.
