Cash-for-vote case: TDP legislator seeks time to appear before ACB

Hyderabad, June 19 (IANS): Telugu Desam party (TDP) legislator Sandra Venkata Veeraiah on Friday sought more time to appear before Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana in cash-for-vote case.

Veeraiah wrote a letter to ACB, seeking 10 day time to appear before it, citing ill-health.

Informing the ACB that he has been suffering from pain in spinal cord and right leg and doctors have advised him bed rest for 10 days, he said he had only come to know through media that a notice was issued to him by the ACB, directing him to appear before it by 5 p.m. on Friday.

Stating that he is undergoing treatment in a hospital, Veeraiah, who represents Sattupalli assembly seat in Khammam district of Telangana, said he is unable to appear before ACB as doctors have advised him against travelling but noted he would fully cooperate with ACB in the investigations.

The ACB on Tuesday had served a notice on Sandra asking him to appear for questioning. As he was not available at his residence in Hyderabad, the ACB officials pasted the notice on the door.

The ACB on Wednesday grilled V. Narender Reddy who was the TDP-BJP candidate in the Telangana Legislative Council elections.

TDP legislator Revanth Reddy was arrested by the ACB on May 31 while he was offering Rs.50 lakh as bribe to nominated member Elvis Stephenson reportedly to induce him to vote for Narender Reddy.

The ACB, which had laid a trap on a complaint by Stephenson, also arrested two aides of Revanth Reddy.

All the three accused are currently lodged in a jail in Hyderabad.
