Mangalore, May 7: "Today’s’ education system in India is far away from human values and ethics and it is only teaching how to earn more money, said Shahanaz, noted Kannada writer and editor of ‘Anupama’ Kannada fortnightly.

She was speaking at a seminar organized by Mangalore-Ullal unit of Jama-ate Islami Hind at Town Hall here on Monday May 7.

It is sad that highly educated people are addicted to drugs and involved in immoral activities. According to a recent survey, medical students are the highly addicted to drugs. How can the doctors treat the society in a better way if they themselves lose track?" she questioned.

Speaking about the introduction of sex education in schools she said that education with moral and humane values is the need of the hour and not sex education, she opined.

Lubna Zakia, Sameena Uppinangady and Asia Malpe presented papers on different topics.  Sabiha Fatima presided over the function. Well-known writer B M Rohini and social activist Prameela J Vas were present on the dais.

Sajida Momin delivered the introductory remarks. Mahiyam Shahira recited verses from the Holy Qur'an.
