Mangalore, May 9:At the annual general meeting of the Mangalore Ladies Circle 82 held in Mangalore Club, Morgan's Gate, Mangalore recently in the city, Circler Nayana Fernandes was unanimously elected chairperson of Mangalore Ladies Circle 82. She takes over the leadership from Cr Lata De Souza.

Mangalore Ladies Circle is a part of Ladies Circle India. Ladies Circle is a non-political, non-sectarian organization made up of the wives of members of Round Table. It offers opportunity for fostering and strengthening friendships between like-minded young women below the age of 40. It also helps create a better understanding of the obligations one owes to the society. "Friendship and Service" are its motto.

The Mangalore Ladies Circle has strongly supported the national theme of "Freedom through Education" and has undertaken several projects to enable this dream come true for several children.

Some of the other Projects the Mangalore Ladies Circle 82 has been involved in are as follows:

• MLC 82's steadfast support to the Prajna Counselling Centre is reflected in the numerous projects it does annually with them for the betterment of the  children and women in their care. From providing sports gear, books, stationary kits, lunches, movies, sewing machines, clothes, foot wear to just spending time with them and creating joy during Diwali and Christmas.
  
• Provided the Paediatric ward of The Wenlock Hospital with incubators, beds, aquariums, books, toys and colourful wall decor.
  
• Free Dental and Health Camp's for children and adults in homes and orphanages are undertaken several times a year.
  
• Provided Government Higher Primary School at Bolar with better water facilities.
  
• Donated Sewing- Machines and Water Filteration equipment to Mother Teresa's home.
  
• For the children of Samvedanaa, a home for HIV positive children, donated 16 lockers.
  
• Provided for the monthly salaries of 2 English teachers, at the Government Higher Primary School, Bolar and Mannagudda.
  
• Under project "Gift a Toy", gave the under privileged children at Prashath Niwas, Jeppu a toy each.
  
• Re-built a kitchen at Government Higher Primary School, Mannagudda.
  
• Providing environmental education to children under ECOPP (environmental conservation & protection programme)
  
• Planting 50 saplings annually as part of a drive for a better environment.

The Circle is part of Ladies Circle International and WOCO and is committed to helping the needy by conducting various projects financed by the funds it has raised. The "Art for a Cause- Have a heart for heart" art exhibition organized at Saldanha Providence recently was one such fund-raiser and was an immense success. The Circle also organizes Carol Singing annually to raise funds.
