Sakleshpur, Jul 9 (DHNS): The passengers of Bengaluru-Mangaluru train were stranded for more than four hours on Wednesday following a landslide near Yedakumeri. This is the second such incident at the same spot in a span of one month.

The track between Yedakumeri and Shiravagilu, near the 26th tunnel was buried under soil and boulders due to landslide on Tuesday midnight.

The guards on night duty, specially deputed during rainy season, had informed the Sakleshpur railway station authorities about the incident. As a result, the Bengaluru-Mangaluru train was held over at Sakleshpur from 4.30 am to 8 am.

The guards had also alerted the Subramanya railway station about the landslide. However, by the time the information was conveyed, Bengaluru-Karwar train had left Subramanya station. The locopilot was immediately alerted and he managed to stop the train at a few distance from the landslide spot.

Earthmovers were pressed into service and the track was cleared by 8 am.

On June 14, a boulder had fallen on the rail track near Shiravagilu, derailing Kannur-Karwar-Bengaluru train.
