Pune, Jul 17: After protesting the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the director of FTII ,the students, who were supported by various Bollywood and non- Bollywood celebrities, seem to get an answer to their demands. The Government has decided to give the post of director of the Institute to former head of National Film Archives Of India, Prashanth Pathrabe.

Talking about taking over the running of the institute at a time when chaos is reigning supreme, Pathrabe said, "I will do my best to resolve the issue. I have earlier interacted with FTII from outside. Let me first study the situation".

The leading acting institute of the country, FTII, was recently in the headlines as the government had appointed Gajendra Chauhan as the Chairman, and who people knew was openly sympathetic to the ideologies of the ruling party. Fearing that this was the Governments way of interfering in their educational affairs, the students of FTII had immediately and vociferously voiced their defiant protest against the same.

Heading the institute, as their director, during these turbulent times was DJ Narain, who it is believed has been told off by some ministry officials for not being able to maintain decorum in the campus. DJ Narain's term ends next month. Pathrabe is also an Indian Information Services officer just like DJ Narain used to be. Pathrabe is a 1992 batch officer of the IIS.

Narain who had taken over the post of the Director of FTII in 2011 was given a year's extension last year and will be missed as he is believed to be favourite among the students.
