Udupi, May 26: Deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj who had gone on holidays for few days is back again.  This clearly means that encroachers of footpaths, owners of illegal settlements have tough time once again. 

As expected he resumed his eviction drive in the city and even in Manipal on Friday May 25.  Many petty shops along the Car Street were evicted with the help of police.  A few of them who said that they would evict voluntarily were give a day's time.

Later deputy commissioner along with SP Dr Subrahmaneshwar Rao, town council commissioner Gokuldas Nayak visited Manipal and evicted petty shops there.  A few of them however, volunteered to evict their shops by Saturday May 26 evening

On the other hand public telephone booth owners filed a special memorandum to DC requesting him to make alternative arrangements for them since most of them have been asked to evict.  Responding to this Gokuldas Nayak said that he would discuss with BSNL officials in this regard.
