Mangalore, May 28: An undertrial who was in prisoners' cell in the Wenlock Hospital here escaped during the supper on Sunday May 27 night.

Masood (22), a resident of Magundi near N R Pura in Chikamagalur who was arrested in connection with a robbery case escaped from Wenlock Hospital on Sunday.  He had been behind the bars in connection with the theft in a doctor's house at Nelyadi.

He was in the sub-jail here for few months now.  It was only a four days ago that he was admitted to Wenlock Hospital owing to malaria.

On Sunday when the prisoners' cell staff came to give him supper, he pushed him aside and fled the place after jumping over the compound wall.  Masood is said to be involved in several theft and robbery cases and is a notorious rowdy- sheeter.  There are several cases pending against him Balehonnur, Kalasa and Moodigere police station limits.

Earlier he was arrested and put behind bars in Dharwad.  But he had come out on parole.  But he had managed to escape without going back to the prison.  It was during the theft in doctor's house in Nelyadi that his name once again surfaced.  He was finally arrested in his sister's house at Belur.

Now he has given a slip to the police and managed to escape.  Police sources even said that he is the member of a notorious criminal gang.
