Maharashtra governor rejects Memon's clemency plea

Mumbai, July 29 (IANS): Maharashtra Governor C.V. Rao on Wednesday rejected death row convict Yakub Memon's plea for clemency, official sources said here.

The development came shortly after a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court rejected Memon's appeal filed before it.

This is expected to pave the way for Memon's scheduled execution in the Nagpur Central Jail Thursday at 7 a.m., on his 54th birthday, for his role and conviction in the March 12, 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said that now there were no legal hurdles to implement the death warrant issued against Memon.
